A crew of 7 JCI Scotland members flew over to Galway to attend the JCI Ireland National Convention in October of this year. Situated by the shores of Galway Bay the Irish made us hugely welcome, and although the weather failed to do the same. our spirits were not dampened. On the Friday evening we enjoyed seeing JCI Ireland present an award to a pharmacy from Cork for the JCI Ireland Friendly Business Awards. The Saturday saw JCI Scotland entered the Tripartite Debate but sadly were beaten by JCI Ireland - the subject matter of ensuring all people died at 40 was too challenging for JCI Scotland to propose. Delegates also enjoyed some interesting topics on healthy eating and recycling with presentations being given by a local business woman and also a representative from Galway City Council respectively. In the rain and wind there was nothing else to do but head to the shops, but JCI Ireland had a challenge for us. Vintage Shopping on a budget...........all in aid of charity.
The awards dinner and dance was hugely enjoyable and the wine and food flowed. This was a special event for JCI Galway who were celebrating their 50th Anniversary and it was great to see so many of their Past Presidents present. Current Irish President, Louise Walsh was awarded a much deserved Senatorship as was long term member of JCI Ireland Norma Duignan.
A thoroughly enjoyable weekend from our friends in JCI Ireland, and I am sure we all look forward to next years Irish Convention.
